Assistance Dogs Australia (ADA) is a non-profit organisation that trains Labradors to help enhance the quality of life and improve the level of independence for people with physical disabilities. As a result of the ADA program, these highly trained dogs allow recipients to have greater mobility, gain confidence and have higher self-esteem.
A relatively new and small charity ADA was started in 1996 and has since placed over 70 dogs around Australia. Each dog takes a full two years to train at a cost of $20000 each. We have 48 dogs in training and expect two more litters to join before the end of the year
ADA has recently been accredited by Assistance Dogs International, making it the first assistant dog organisation to be accredited in the Southern Hemisphere.
Puppies are trained through the assistance of volunteer puppy raisers or through innovative programs such as a work for the dole program, Dogs for the Dole and the Pups in Prison a training programs.
ADA’s mission is to increase the independence of people with disabilities. We aim to do this through the provision of a professional customer friendly service.
The 10-person board of ADA provides professional governance to insure ADA’s accountability and integrity. ADA has ATO endorsement as a deductible gift recipient and a tax-exempt charitable entity.
