We are all volunteers so 100% of money donated goes to the intended recipient or project. We conduct a Thrift Shop to cover our expenses and, as well, raise over $60,000 a year in extra shop takings, which is used in our work. Our office shares the same premises.
Our projects focus on the best educational outcomes for the very poor because education enables these children to compete on a more equal footing with other children in society.
Our projects, and support, empower women and provide better opportunities for their families to move out of the poverty cycle.

WHAT WE DO

53 years ago a married couple, Mr & Mrs Colin Bennett, from West End, Brisbane, started St Veronicas to raise money for a few refugee children in Hong Kong. Since then, the group has grown into an organisation which now supports 1500 children, in 70 centres, with individual education sponsorship. In addition, we support about 12 special projects each year.
Educational sponsorship is $100 per child per year, and you hear from the child annually.

POINTS OF INTEREST

One of our 12 projects last year was to fund six new houses in Karnataka State, India, through a scheme where the recipient had saved half the cost and the other half was given as a no-interest loan, to be repaid in 5 years. This micro-credit scheme has the capacity to continue for a long time because the initial donation will be recycled.
Another was the provision of after-school tuition for a group of 103 poor students in Tamil Nadu whose homes often lack electricity, enough space to study, and parents who are often uneducated. Tuition is available six evenings a week, for four hour sessions, and is FREE. We provide on-going funds for this project.
Another was the provision of a breeding goat for each of 90 families in Kerala. Goats are easily looked after, even by young children, can provide an income from the rearing of kids, and provide milk for the family.

WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES

Projects:It provides skill training, to enable poor women to earn a little income.
It helps with projects which use micro-credit principles.
It helps very poor children with extra tuition and gives them confidence to come up in life.
