For over 30 years the Council of Single Mothers and their Children has provided a state-wide support service for single mothers and their families, which includes: telephone information, support and referral; financial aid and food relief; a newsletter and expert advice. We are currently also running community lunch groups with food that has been generously donated by ?One Umbrella?.
Paid workers, unpaid workers and management committee are all single mothers.
Single mothers need mutual support and skilled advocates to help them negotiate the many complex administrative hurdles and barriers they face. Many single mothers are overwhelmed by combined bureaucratic burdens of negotiating Social Security, Child Support and Family Law, while attempting to bring up their kids on very little money.

Single mother headed families now comprise around one fifth of all Australian families. The majority are among the poorest families in the country, with 52% of single mother headed families subsisting below the poverty line. Most single mothers are divorced, in their early thirties, have one or two children, are better educated and much poorer than most of the population.

Your money will go directly to providing food vouchers for single mother headed families in great financial need OR Xmas toys for younger children and vouchers for older children from single mother headed families. No money will be used to support the administrative costs of the organisation.
