Karunya Trust Children's Home is in Tiruvannamalai, southern India. It was founded in 1992 by a local Indian man, Kumaran and his Australian wife Sharyn.
|
Karunya provides love, education and shelter in an extraordinary environment for 43 orphaned and underprivileged children.
|
Funded entirely by donations Sharyn and Kumaran and their devoted staff lovingly clothe, feed and school the children. The ultimate aim is to create self-sufficiency.
Some monies go towards scholarship for other local children who would otherwise be unable to afford school fees.
Karunya Trust is a charitable trust registered with the state government of Tamil Nadu.
All donations go to the Home.
|
Educating the children is one of the priorities of the Home as it will increase their job prospects.
Monies raised so far have provided for all the daily needs of the children plus built the dwellings that house the children, bought their school bus, and paid to connect a pump to their well. Educating the children is one of the highest priorities of the orphanage as it increases their job prospects and independence.
|
Karunya Trust Children's Home is a grass-roots operation, with all monies raised going directly to care for the children, rather than to developing a website or raising its profile. All inquiries about the orphanage please contact Faith Pandian who has been leading tours in India since the early 90's with her company Windows to the World. During this time she became aware of the orphanage and its needs (please refer to contact details above).
Donations are handled by Rose Witherow, the Australian Fundraising Co-ordinator. Please click on the following button to download a donation form.
An alternative way to raise funds for Karunya is via www.wineraiser.org in Melbourne, Australia which will donate 15% of proceeds from wine sales to Karunya when nominated as your charity
